Skiddaw by Ullock Pike

9th July 2017

Route. High Side - Watches - Ling How - Ullock Pike - Long Side - Carl Side - Skiddaw - Bakestall - Dash Falls - Peter House Farm - High Side. ( about 8.5 miles 3000ft ascent )

Another old favourite this week.

The climb to Ullock Pike is not quite as hard as it seems here but it's still a fair old pull..

looking back to Bass lake from the top of the first field.

The way ahead from Watches. A peculiar name for a rock formation which is a little out of place in these slate hills.

Skiddaw in cloud,  nothing unusual about that but the forecast was for clearer conditions

Bass lake with Sale Fell and Ling Fell beyond from Ling How

Binsey in the distance.

.

Sue on the final easy scramble just before the top of Ullock Pike.

 Derwentwater from the top.

The slate path to Skiddaw summit looks unclimbable from here.

  Lovely light on Newlands

A look back at the ridge just climbed..

On the slate path now and apart from steepness there is no exposure or narrow edges..

Approaching Skiddaw and as promised the day has brightened nicely.

View down Barkbethdale to Randel Crag and the Ullock Pike ridge

A very clear Blencathra with interesting clouds above. We thought that it did seem to be a day of varied and interesting clouds

Helvellyn.

The tops of Skiddaw and Skiddaw Little Man can just be seen poking up.

Whitewater Dash falls.

Following the Cumbria Way under Dead Crags

A look back to Dash falls.

I think this is a Red Admiral.

A final look back to the Ullock Pike ridge and Skiddaw.

Previous walk  - A walk and wild camp around the Old Coach Rd. - Next walk - Around Longsleddale.
