The Dodds and Brown hills from High Row

4th October2015

Route. High Row - Old Coach Rd - Randerside - Great Dodd - Watsons Dodd - Stybarrow Dodd - Hartside - Birkett fell - Brown Hills - Swineside Knott - Common Fell - Round How - Bracken How - Dockray - High Row.

(about 11 miles 2500 ft ascent)

A nice day for walking today, not too hot and not too cold but not the best for long range views or photos as any sunny spots seemed to be in other parts of the Lakes

Patrick, Anne and Lynn setting of along the Old Coach Rd. Poor Sue had caught a cold last week and couldn't shake it off.

looking back along the track from Groovebeck fold where we have turned left following the signpost for Great Dodd.

Some quite sticky bogs to be crossed on the climb to Randerside.

On Randerside top looking across to Catstyecam.

Great Dodd.

looking back to Randerside.

Very dull in St. Johns. Skiddaw in the distance can hardly be seen.

Catstyecam again this time behind the ski run on Raise

Creative cairn builders have been at work on Hartside.

 Ullswater from Birkett fell.

Following the wall down from Birkett fell. Brown Hills on the left, the fells around Glenridding and the top of Ullswater ahead.

looking over Glencoyne Head to Catstyecam, then Helvellyn and Helvellyn Lower Man

  Sheffield Pike from Brown Hills.

The main path keeps to the centre of the ridge but we walked over to the right for the view of Ullswater

The head of Ullswater.

On  Swineside Knott looking to Common Fell.

Approaching common fell.

From Common Fell we drop steeply then tackle the steep but thankfully short climb to Round How from where we have another lovely view of Ullswater

Great Mell Fell in the sun.

Round How from Bracken How

View back to Watermillock Common from the same place.

Gowbarrow Fell seen from the walk back along the road to High Row.

Last walk  - Loweswater fells - Next walk - A Deepdale round
