Our first visit to the Lakes in 2016 took us to these two smallish fells. We were hoping to escape the rain and although we ended up getting a bit wet it was only light drizzle.
Heading along the track from the parking place near Brownrigg farm
It's a short steep climb up the fellside.
We were pleasantly surprised by the extent of the views. This is looking over to Gowbarrow.
And zooming past Gowbarrow to Place Fell and the fells to the south of Ullswater.
Calfhowe Pike
Looking southwest wards from the top through the vale of Keswick
Next stop Little Mell Fell across the valley
Stopping only to pet the ponies which had come out whilst we were at the top.
This pony knew I had an apple in my pack and wouldn't move till it had had some.
The low ground between Brownrigg Farm and Greenrow was very wet. Watermillock Common is the hill in the distance. At Greenrow there has been a bit of work done to the footpaths and new signs added so there is now a direct route between the two Mell Fells without having to trespass or divert to Greenah.
The rain started as we climbed past Lowthwaite.
On Little Mell Fell looking back to It's bigger brother. We took a slightly different rout back following the path headed straight for Great Mell Fell.
Which brought us to the road with just the soggy crossing of the valley back to the car
