PICTURES AND TRIP REPORTS FROM MY WALKS IN THE ENGLISH LAKE DISTRICT
|
We both had stuff to do today so opted for a short walk around our local hills.
Walking up the hill away from the lovely little village of Belmont. The tv masts on Winter Hill will be the highest point in our round. The body of water below is officially named Ward's reservoir but is known locally by every man and his dog as the Blue Lagoon.
Belmont church beyond the Blue Lagoon.
Following the ruined wall and boggy path to Winter Hill
.
Looking back from the climb to Spittlers Edge and Great Hill.
And zooming in to the faint outline of Pendle Hill.

Belmont reservoir seen from the descent to the A575 Bolton to Preston Rd..
.
In the other direction (west) Rivington Pike is clear but the Lancashire plain and coast are lost in the haze.
Belmont village is in the trees before the reservoir.
Our walk took us by the quirkily named Ornamental Reservoir.
Which today in the sunshine did look very ornamental.
Lads resting in the shade
.
It can get quite windy around here.
Which comes in handy for the Bolton sailing club.
We both really enjoyed our short outing as sometimes it's nice to be reminded of the beauty on your own door step.
